In the midst of COVID-19, we gave the NHS increased visibility into their supply of Personal Protective Equipment, deploying forecasting technology to help them understand where their finite supplies will be needed most.

The situation

The NHS has experienced acute problems with PPE shortages, with central authorities having little visibility over what equipment they have or how long it would last under current and future conditions.

How did we help?

As a response to the crisis, we partnered with NHS consultancy AdviseInc to deploy a PPE tracking platform called StockWatch to over 275 NHS Trusts and other public sector organisations including primary, social and home care.

This module ingests data on supplies of PPE and provides visibility about where supplies are located and how long they will last. Echo provides demand forecasting using stock data as well as aggregate clinical and epidemiological data at the national, regional and local level.

Results

These insights were used by a number of decision makers including regional Gold Commands led by the British Army for medical supply logistics. We estimate that the platform saves the NHS over 3,500 person-hours per week.
